Metallography is used to prepare and examine metallic materials to reveal microstructural features such as grain structure, phases, and defects. The process includes sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching to produce high-quality surfaces suitable for optical and electron microscopy. Metallographic analysis provides critical insight into processing–microstructure relationships and supports interpretation of mechanical and corrosion behavior.
